From the producers of Lost and Alias and the screenwriter of City of Angels and For Love of the Game comes a contemporary, heartwarming ensemble show about a group of supportive friends in various stages of romantic relationships and friendships living in Los Angeles.
There are the just-married Nic and Angelo, the seemingly happily married Dave and Deena and the newly-engaged Marjorie and Adam.
But — what about Brian? Of this close-knit group of friends, everyone else has paired off, while Brian has emerged as the last bachelor standing. At 34, regardless of his run of bad luck in matters of the heart, Brian still holds out hope that one day he’ll open the door and be blinded by love. However questions about his fate have been popping up more frequently in his head. The most pressing question is – and it’s one that only he can answer — could all of his problems stem from the fact that he is harboring a crush on the picture-perfect Marjorie, his best friend’s girl?
Adam, Brian’s best friend since childhood, was going to break up with Marjorie but found himself proposing to her instead. He’s a lawyer and Marjorie is a pediatric surgeon. Their busy lifestyles leave them little time to plan their upcoming wedding and, oddly enough, that seems to have given them more time to re-evaluate whether they’re indeed doing the right thing.
Brian’s fortysomething sister, Nic, and her boy-toy husband, Angelo, are trying hard to start a family, but something’s not right. Nic’s high-stress work as a record executive and Angelo’s fledgling acting career have created some anxiety in the new marriage. Now they’re torn between conceiving a child the old-fashioned way or using modern medicine to speed up the process.
Dave, who runs a video game business with Brian called Zap Monkey, is married to stay-at-home mom Deena. They’ve been together for 13 years, have three little girls and a lackluster sex life. This prompts the frustrated and unconventional Deena to suggest to the more content Dave that they consider having an open marriage. Like all married people and their single friends, they can’t wait for Brian to join their “club,” though they’re not exactly sure why.
What About Brian stars Barry Watson as Brian, Matthew Davis as Adam, Sarah Lancaster as Marjorie, Rick Gomez as Dave, Amanda Detmer as Deena, Rosanna Arquette as Nic and Raoul Bova as Angelo.
Brian is a super guy, but as his friends pair off and get married, he has stayed single. Is it because the dating scene is so complicated these days, or because his standards are too high? Gee, it may be because he’s secretly in love with his best friend’s fiancee.
I know, I know…I watch too much TV but gosh I can’t seem to help it, I’m a single mother so I don’t go out, on the week nights, you can usually catch me folding laundry, helping kids with homework (because Brenna ALWAYS has someone over spending the night) or straightening up after Brenna, but all the while I’m watching some show, whether it be Prison Break, One Tree Hill, American Idol, well now you can add What About Brian to that list…
I am really digging this show and DUDE….Matthew Davis? Hot stuff. Well the reason I’m blogging about this show is because last night’s episode was I think the Season Finale and gosh it made me cry. The entire season I’ve been rooting for Brian and Marjorie because for some reason I think they belong together, and plus Adam is always gone or away from the picture so he was kinda like that saying, out of sight, out of mind? That’s what Adam was, he was never around and the sparks were flying all over the place for Marjorie and Brian (oh yeah Marjorie is Adam’s girlfriend turned fiance) and I was all for them….until last night.
Until Adam saw Brian and Marjorie fighting, after Adam and Dave (another one of their friends) caught Dave’s wife cheating on him. The whole reason Dave thought Deena (his wife) was sleeping with one of the guys they know is because Dave was watching a video of their kids birthday party and in it, he sees Deena and Richard (their daughter’s best friends dad) fighting, and Adam remarks upon seeing the footage that people only fight like that when there’s something sexual going on, so that prompts Dave to want to catch Deena in the act, so they follow her all over town and when Deena stops at Adam and Marjorie’s house, Brian and Angelo (played by hottie Italian Stalion Raoul Bova) cut out of the car to get something to eat, leaving just Adam and Dave in the car. They continue to spy on Deena and when Deena leaves Adam’s house, she goes to Richard’s house and they go inside and it crushes Dave’s spirit, because to make a long story short, Deena and Dave have been married for 13 years and Deena hasn’t been with anyone else besides him and she wants to experiment with others and Dave hasn’t had sex with ANYONE (including his wife) for two years, so she asks Dave for an open marriage, they could sleep with whoever they wanted to outside of their marriage but they couldn’t tell and according to Dave last night, they couldn’t know the other person. Dave agrees because if his wife isn’t going to sleep with him then he needs to find someone who will, and he found a girl and she wanted to sleep with Dave, BAD…but Dave couldn’t do it, he didn’t want to sleep with anyone but his wife, which led to Dave spying on his wife last night because although Dave didn’t want to sleep with anyone else but his wife, his wife didn’t have the same outlook as he did and he caught her sleeping not only with another guy but a guy they both knew. And to see the look of devastation on Dave’s face was so heartbreaking, reminded me of Tristan from Tristan and Isolde, he was so heartbroken that he told Adam to catch a cab home.
Adam caught the cab home, only to come home to find his best friend fighting with his fiance. The look on Adam’s face totally had my heart crying out to comfort him, because even though he can be a pain in the ass hot guy, he’s also got feelings and he really does love Marjorie, it only sucks that maybe he’s not the only one that Marjorie loves.
So, as you can see, the show is really good and I guess I’m blogging about it now to get it out of my system because we might not get another season of What about Brian because of ratings and stuff, but I really hope that it does come back, I’d love to see what happens with the whole Adam/Marjorie/Brian thing and then I really want to see what happens between Deena and Dave, so much potential this show has, we just need to give it a chance.
Cross your fingers for me…or not, because I truly do watch too much tv…LOL.
